The wind looked like trash in SE Connecticut so I headed North to the Cape to ride at West Dennis beach. The wind started in the lower 20′s and built over later afternoon until most guys were riding 8m kites. It’s always fun riding with a new group of guys and the crew from AirSupport. Here are a few shots from down by the jetty –

Written by Mike Shugrue on June 27th, 2010Again the CT Kiteboarding group got together and made the 600 or so mile drive down to the Outter Banks for the Triple S put on by REAL in Waves, NC. We scored four days of riding including a handful of overpowered down-winders though Pea Island. Ryan heighteed the level of difficulty & fun by leading the charge shooting down multiple dead end channels & jumping islands. We closed out each day with a session in the back yard… I pulled out the GoPro HD for the first time and captured Matt, Scott, Doug and Kevin doing it up…

Spring 20-10
Written by Mike Shugrue on March 31st, 2010So far this spring hasn’t been all that exciting on the water – The SW winds have not filled in as they usually do from season to season. We are all hoping the warm weather shows up gradually and the winds stick around. Winter and the recent flooding has taken its toll on the shoreline – I rode out to East Beach & Matunuck in RI and found the beaches quite eroded.
The winds that have arrived have conveniently agreed with our schedules showing up on the weekends…
Finally Back on the Water
Written by Mike Shugrue on March 4th, 2010February 20th
The snow and ice is finally gone and we can return to the water to do some real riding… Excuse me while I vent, but riding on the snow/ice in southern New England is pure crap. Perhaps I’m spoiled by the 2+ feet of powder I got to session on in Northern Maine a few years back… Here in CT there is typically just enough snow to trash your board on a ragged field or skim across a frozen lake hoping to hold an edge. Next season I’ll gladly trade ALL my time spent on the snow for a few sessions on the water where I can actually progress my riding and attempt a trick or two without running the risk of smashing myself!
February briefly loosened it’s grip on winter and the crew was ready. The familiar pattern of phone calls and text messages commenced checking conditions, “Are you in?” “How’s the wind” “Who is at the beach now?”… Ultimately six of us came out of hibernation and hit the water to brush up on our riding. Bring on the SW spring winds!
- In typical form Chuck wasted no time in laying down a few moves = cracked CrazyFly board, I thought carbon fiber was relatively indestructible?
More (better) images to come…
Trading Water for Snow
Written by Mike Shugrue on January 6th, 2010I apologize its been a while since we last posted – Had some sick sessions in late November into December before the snow showed up, unfortunately it was too cold to pull the camera out.
December 23rd provided some nice snow for SE Connecticut – the crew dusted of their skis and snowboards and hit the local field. The wind fluctuated up and down but everyone had fun…More snow session reports to come!
